My lovelies, do you use lip gloss?
If you follow my blog religiously, then you know that I never leave my house without lip gloss. I love having at least one on me because it ensures my lips with constant moisture, makes lips optically bigger and provides juicy colour. Perhaps today’s post may at least slightly infect you with my “lip gloss mania”.
Shine!
Currently, with such an immense skin care and beautifying cosmetic choice, among hundreds of lip balms, lipsticks, lip lacquer and lip tints, lip gloss is becoming forgotten. It’s a pity because is an amazing solution. Always when the lipstick is too much but you still want to make your lips pop. Always when the lip balm is too little. The lip gloss is this something in between lip balm and lipstick which we need (at least I do).
Your chapped lips will fall in love with a lip gloss as it not only will make them shine but also hydrate them. Obviously, that is the case when it’s not just any lip gloss for few bucks. In the winter, lip gloss seems to be the only solution because it gently outlines lips, prevents chapped lips, moisturises, nourishes and ensures softness. As for me, it’s a perfect alternative for a lipstick though obviously, you need to like the gloss. Fans of matte lipstick will never find in lip gloss what they are looking for.
Interesting fact. Did you know who invented lip gloss?
First lip balm intended to take care of lips and provide subtle gloss was invented by Dr Fleet from Virginia. The cosmetic combined soft wax, fat and peppermint oil. There was no pigment included as cosmetic was sold as a soothing lip balm.
The recipe was sold to John Morton who polished it and promoted as a popular “Chapstick”. Lip balm was invented as first and only on its base was created first lipstick. At first, it was all about lips protection and to add some subtle gloss.
I love lip gloss and I have quite plenty of those. It is affordable and gives me all I need. In spite of all this, the home made lip gloss is what I use the most because it has the most to offer: not only the gloss but also soothing effect. Home made lip gloss is entirely natural – it is its main benefit.
HOW TO MAKE LIP GLOSS?
Contrary to the appearances, making your own lip gloss is not that difficult. We just need few simple ingredients which should be easily accessible in every home. The simplest recipes do not involve any chemical substances or preservatives. Even delicate colour can be achieved with the use of natural components. Are you curious as to how to make natural lip gloss?
Here’s the simplest recipe for DIY lip gloss:
- 4 teaspoons of petroleum jelly,
- 1 teaspoon of paraffin,
- 4 teaspoons of coconut oil.
How to make the lip gloss with use of aforementioned ingredients? You can melt all the components in a small mug, mix it and place in the small jar or special container. However, it is easy to burn the ingredients, so allow me to introduce an alternative method.
I make my home made lip gloss using a water bath, which means that I place all ingredients in a transparent bag (plastic bag or ziplock). Place it in the bowl with hot water and wait till these melt due to the heat. Then just take the bag out of the water, mix all ingredients and pour it into the prepared container.
It’s easier than you think. Home made lip gloss (or lip balm if you prefer this name) should be applied to lips using your fingertip.
How to prepare lip gloss with no petroleum jelly?
Not everyone likes petroleum jelly or paraffin in their lip gloss, so I include another recipe. I use this one more occasionally but lip gloss made with this DIY method is equally effective, so try it yourself.
Here’s recipe for a lip gloss without petroleum jelly:
- 6 spoons of castor oil,
- 2 spoons of olive oil,
- around 2 spoons of beeswax,
- 1 teaspoon of honey,
- 1 spoon of cocoa (chocolate lip gloss),
- 2 slices of beetroot (lip gloss with colour).
All ingredients place in the bowl positioned on the pot over the hot steam. In this type of water bath melt all ingredients till are mix. The amount of beeswax should match the consistency you aim at with the lip gloss.
The last two ingredients are responsible for the colour. If you want to obtain home made chocolate lip gloss, add some cocoa. Then, it will colour your lips to a delicate shade of brown; sort of nude lip gloss.
If you prefer pink lip gloss, you can ass some raw beetroot juice or powdered beetroot. If you have more time on your hands, you can dice the beetroot deep it in some water and simmer for a longer while, then add to your lip gloss.
How to make a matte lip gloss?
The term “matte lip gloss” is conflicting. Something can either be glossy or matte. However, what I mean is that the recipe for a lip gloss can be modified to obtain a matte lipstick. Just complement the mix of petroleum jelly, coconut oil and colourant add matte foundation or mineral powder. These substances will make your DIY lip gloss become beautiful, matte lipstick. It’s simple!
